Knowing God is a wonderful privilege which has been bestowed on man by a loving, holy, and gracious God. Knowing God begins with entering into a personal saving relationship with Him through His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, by the gracious work of the Holy Spirit. Knowing God is a life-long process. Once a person is saved, he must, in reliance on the power of the Person of the Holy Spirit, pursue knowing God with everything within him. Led by the Spirit of God, apostle Peter, ended his second epistle to scattered and persecuted believers exhorting them to grow in their knowledge of God. Under the inspiration of the Spirit of God, he writes: "but grow in the grace and knowledge of of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen" (2 Peter 3:18). Peter had a deep, intimate, and personal knowledge of Jesus Christ. But he continued to pursue intimate knowledge of Christ, his Lord and Savior, through the indwelling Spirit. Therefore, he was and is a good model to follow. Also, apostle Paul pressed on to know more of Christ to the point of counting all things loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord (Philippians 3:8).

Like Peter, Paul is another good example to follow in pursuing the surpassing value of knowing Christ. We must never be deceived into thinking that "we have arrived" in our quest to know God. Peter, Paul, and the early disciples did not. And we must not. The knew that God is infinite. Yet, in His grace, He has chosen for finite and redeemed mortals like us to know Him personally. What an awesome privilege! May the Holy Spirit continue to renew our desire to know our loving and living God-the Lord of all-until the day of eternity!
