As protests and unrest engulf the land of the free and the home of the brave, the prophet Isaiah’s prayer is appropriate and applicable. Isaiah cried out: “O LORD, be gracious to us; for we have waited for You. Be [our] strength every morning, our salvation also in the time of distress…The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. And He will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge” (Isaiah 33:2, 5-6).
You see, Isaiah did not look to a particular political party; say the Party of the Patriarchs, or the Party of the Priests, or the Party of the Prophets, the Party of the Preachers or the Party of the Patriots to solve the problems of his beloved country, Israel. Rather, he reverently and resolutely looked to the Person of Yahweh, that is, the Self-existing, the Self-sufficient, the Sustainer, the Sovereign and the Supreme Deity of the Universe, to solve Israel’s problems. He knew that no political party, politician, nor president could solve his country’s political problems, let alone her spiritual problems. But he knew without a doubt that the Lord can because He is in a distinguished class all by Himself and has all power to do what man cannot do.
May You, O Yahweh, be gracious to the land of the free and the home of the brave, her salvation in this time of distress, and the stability of her times! In Jesus’ name, I pray! Amen!
