God’s Promise for You Today

God delights in making promises to His believing children. Not only does He delight to make promises to us, but He also does everything in His power to fulfill them. He is the Best Promise-Maker and the Best Promise-Keeper in the entire universe.

Today, I would like us to consider the promise in 2 Chronicles 16:9a

Today, I would like us consider the promise God made through His prophet Hanani in 2 Chronicles 16:9a. King Asa of Judah started well but finished poorly. When the Ethiopian army of one million men and 300 chariots came up against him, he turned to the Lord and totally relied on Him to fight His battle. As a result, God gave him a resounding victory (see 2 Chronicles 14).  But later, when the king of Israel came against him, Asa decided to fight this battle himself. He hired the king of Syria who went and fought against the king of Israel. Asa succeeded in handling his own problem. But then God sent His prophet to the king with one of the greatest promises in the Bible and a word of grievous punishment or discipline.

For this blog post, we will only consider the word of promise. It reads: “For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His” (2 Chronicles 16:9; NASB).

The Person of Yahweh is pointed to

First, please notice that the prophet of God, speaking the word of God by the Spirit of God, points us to the PERSON OF YAHWEH. The LORD or YAHWEH, is the self-existing, self-sufficient, self-sustaining, sovereign and supreme Deity of the universe. You see, true prophets of God always make it their priority to point to or promote the LORD, not themselves. That’s why John the Baptist once said: “He [Jesus] must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).

The Practice of Yahweh is revealed

Second, notice that the prophet of God reveals to us a special PRACTICE OF YAHWEH. What’s that special practice of Yahweh? The Bible says, His eyes move or run to and fro throughout the whole earth. Now, we know that God doesn’t have physical eyes like we do. So the question is: What is the Bible saying here? Simply this. God is constantly, continually, ceaselessly watchful for occasions of helping the faithful among His fold, flock, family, or fellowship. In fact, His watchfulness is in every place throughout the whole world all at once. How amazing.

The Promise of Yahweh is announced

Third, notice that the prophet of God announces the PROMISE OF YAHWEH. Yahweh Himself promises to strongly support or show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is completely His. This means Almighty God wants to release His special and supernatural resources upon your life for His kingdom purposes. This means God will strengthen you, support you, sustain you, supply all your needs for serving His purpose. Yes, it means, Yahweh Himself protect you, preserve you, provide for you and promote you to reach your fullest potential in His kingdom.

Oh that God would make my heart and your heart completely His in order to show Himself strong on our behalf in our generation!
