One blessed assurance our Lord Jesus had while ministering here on earth was the Father’s love for Him. He was keenly aware of the Father’s unfailing love for Him. As such, He spoke of it repeatedly, especially in John’s Gospel. John was traditionally called the “Apostle of Love.” “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel” (John 5:20). Again in John 15:9, our Lord briefly but blessedly speaks of the Father’s love for Him as He personally affirms His love for His disciples. “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” Also in His High Priestly Prayer for Himself, His disciples, and those who would hear their word, the Lord Jesus once again confidently spoke of the Father’s love for Him. “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them” (John 17:24, 26).

What’s the point of all these references revealing our Lord’s own personal assurance and awareness of the Father’s love for Him? Simply, they are to encourage us to also be firmly assured and aware of God’s unconditional and unchanging love for us, no matter what life throws at us in these uncertain days!
