"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble...God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns" (Psalm 46:1, 5).
We find in this passage of scripture encouragement from God. One of the spiritual lessons this passage presents to us is this: "God can be counted on to help the believer in his or her trials." The Bible is saying here that God's help for the believer in Jesus Christ is sure. It is reliable. The expression "a very present help in trouble" is also translated "abundantly available for help." Our God is abundantly available to give us the help we need. Unlike people who disappoint us when we look to them for help, God is always willing and ready to assist His children in their time of need. He doesn't disappoint us. He doesn't delay in helping us. His help comes just at the right time.
What is a "delay" to us, is simply God's way of building and strengthening our faith in Him, so we can trust Him more and more with the circumstances we face in life. Notice the Bible says: "God will help her." This is the language of certainty. God is promising the believer that he or she can count on Him for help and never be disappointed. What help do you need today? Help to pay the bills? Help in your marriage? Help to find a job? Help to raise your children? Help to care for your aging parents? Help to resolve the conflicts in your relationships? Whatever help you need as a child of God, will you please come to God. Call on God. Commit your circumstance to God. Count on God to provide the help you need in His time. And be careful to give Him all the credit for giving you the help you need.
